A basic pyramid has three outer surfaces and converges at a point. Pyramids have a polygon base. According to their shape and base they are classified in different categories. A triangular pyramid consists of three triangular side faces and a triangular base. Square, pentagonal and hexagonal pyramids are also the type of pyramids.

The first pyramids were found in Egypt and then Mexico. Some pyramids were found in Bosnia and Herzegovina and then pyramids are found in many countries like Italy, Spain, France, and Greece. In ancient Egypt three types of pyramids are found. Some pyramids are, with smooth sides and hard edges is called “True pyramid”. Some are with very smooth and has curved edges look like bent are called “Bent pyramids”. Some has many steps in their top they are called “Stepped pyramids”. There are so many theories about who built the pyramids of Egypt. Some peoples believe that aliens from outer space are responsible for building the pyramids but it's not true. Most peoples believe that pharaohs got them built by workers. Some peoples believe that pyramids were made by farmers.

Ancient Egyptians are responsible to building the pyramids. Ancient Egyptians are using slave labor to building the pyramids. Most of the common labor that works on the pyramids was Egyptian citizens. The three largest pyramids were building by “Giza” at the beginning of the old kingdom. The most known pyramids are called “Great pyramids” and these pyramids were building for “Pharaoh Khufu”. The step pyramids build during the first dynasty and the basic pyramids was build during the third dynasty.

The reason behind the building pyramids was that the ancient Egypt citizens believed that a person needed a house to rest after their death. Step pyramids had several steps north side of the pyramid have a passage that made it way into the chamber, in this chamber mummy was placed. In the step pyramids except on the south all the sides had underground galleries. The only completed step pyramid was build by King Netjerykhet Djesor. The true pyramids were built in the fourth dynasty. The true pyramids are the developed form of step pyramid. During the middle kingdom, king built pyramid but being lots amount of mud bricks they have not survived very well. Now some pyramids are build in the new kingdom. The last pyramid was built in Nubia (Sudan) in the 4th century.
